LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL MISSION STATEMENT

To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation.

Areas of Service

Human needs exist from conception to death. However, just as each individual differs from all others, so do one's needs vary from infancy through old age. To the sensitive observer, the presence within the community of many people having different needs is a reality that cannot be ignored. Lions can help to meet such a variety of needs by providing specific services to feed the hungry, to shelter the homeless, to guide the young, to aid the physically ill and mentally distressed. In essence, any service to develop and strengthen the body and spirit of those in need will improve the general quality of life. To an individual in need, such action can mean the difference between "living" and merely existing.

Spirit of Voluntarism

It is the recognition of, and concern for, the dignity and well-being of one's fellow man that motivates Lions to give of themselves in the service of others. The spirit of voluntarism seeks constantly to renew and extend itself. Service, in its truest sense, it not limited to fulfilling only immediate needs. In an area such as health services, Lions support projects concerned with the prevention of illness as well as the treatment of disease. A fundamental need is the establishment and maintenance of basic health care programs for all people.

Whether in a Lions-sponsored activity, in cooperation with a specialized agency, or an individual volunteers, Lions freely give there time and energy to improve the quality of life and the total well-being of all. Due to the limitations of time and resources, however, Lions must carefully choose the areas in which they can be most effective.

Conclusion

Be it resolved, therefore, that Lions clubs and individual members share a common responsibility to improve the quality of life for each individual in accordance with the Lions Code of Ethics: "To aid my fellow men by giving my sympathy to those in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy."
